ALD. S. PART has been elected chairman of Liverpool Transport Committee in succession to CLLR. W. G. GREGSON, who lost his seat on the council in the recent municipal election.
MR. C. G. F. Parraierr has succeeded the late MR. C. P. LOCKTON as chief engineer of Chloride Batteries, Ltd. Mr. Pritchett became a director of the company in May, 1952.
Cot. R. T. GRANTHAM, a director of the African Transport Co., Ltd., and managing director of the Overseas Motor Transport group of companies, has retired and will shortly be leaving East Africa and returning to this country.
MR. S. A. ORRELL has been appointed a representative of the Compoflex Co., Ltd., to cover various Midland counties and the East and West Ridings. MR. K. REAY, formerly responsible for that area, will now cover Scotland and northern England. MR. A. M. DENCH will assist MR. P. MacDowau, in his duties in London and the Home Counties.
_ MR. T. H. Tin:311mm, Southampton district manager Of British Road Services, has been appointed manager of the North Eastern Division of British Waterways. He joined Pickfords, Ltd., in Dublin in 1925 and became
Edinburgh household removals manager in 1935. In 1946 he was appointed Isle of Wight area manager of Pickfords-Carter Paterson joint parcels service.
MR. ARTHUR SYKES, technical director of David Brown and Sons (Huddersfield), Ltd., has retired after 50 years' service With the company. Since 1940, Mr. Sykes has been chairman of the British Standards Committee (Gears and Gear Hobbmg Machines), and is the leader of the British delegation to the International Standards Committee dealing with gearing production.
MR. A. E. TIFFIN has been elected general secretary of the Transport and General Workers' Union in succession to the late MR. ARTHUR DEAKIN. MT. Tiffin, who has been acting general secretary since Mr. Deakin's death, was at one time a London bus driver. In his early days as an official of the Union, he was an organizer of the men employed on the then newly formed Green Line service. He became regional organizer in London and the Home Counties in 1941, and assistant general secretary five years later. MR. F. Cousuls, national secretary of the commercial transport group, was one of the unsuccessful candidates for the post of general secretary.

MR. J. M. WIGMORE has been appointed a general line representative of the Avon India Rubber Co., Ltd., for Warwickshire and Northants.
MR. J. EMLYN JONES has been appointed Scottish divisional road engineer of the Ministry of Transport to succeed Ma. J. A. BURNIE:IT, who retires on October 31.
Ma. G. G. GOODWIN, publicity manager of Sheepbridge Engineering, Ltd., has been appointed to a senior executive post concerned with market research with Tecalemit, Ltd.
MR. PATRICK GREENHOLIS, managing director of Vincent Greenhous (Shrewsbury), Ltd., has been appointed a Shrewsbury magistrate. At 36, he is one of the youngest J.P.s in the county.
MR. J. CROSSLEY has been appointed manager of the Manchester branch of the Davies Tyre Co., Ltd., and the Re-Cord Tyre Co., Ltd., in succession to MR. S. Owen, now northern sales manager.
BEDFORDS FOR BURMA
BEDFORD lorries to the value of nearly £500,000 are being supplied to the Burmese Government. Contracts call for 350 four-wheel-drive lorries.
Steel-sided general-purpose bodies with wooden floors, folding seats along each side and canvas tilts, will be supplied by Telehoist, Ltd. A firing platform is mounted in the cab.
EDUCATING RETAILERS cACILITIES for educational work among staffs of garages and retailers of equipment have become available to Brown Brothers, Ltd., with the opening of new branch premises for the Manchester area. An early programme will include films demonstrating the latest methods in vehicle repainting. The former area headquarters in Deansgate has been in use since 1902.
