THE weighbridge at School Street, Newton-le-Willows is to be closed because it lies on a site to be developed as a superstore.
St Helens Policy and Resources Committee wants generous advance warning of the closure date and talks are to be held between St Helens Council officials and Merseyside County Council.
The weighbridge is the only one still operated by St Helens Council, and Councillor Bob Knight said he was reluctant to see it go. "There are not many weighbridges within a reasonable distance," he said.
