STRIKE OVER OFF-PEAK CUTS

DUNDEE municipal bus drivers and conductors last Saturday staged a token strike in protest against proposed cuts in bus services during off-peak periods. Tramway men came out in sympathy. At 1 p.m. more than 160 trams and buses were taken to their garages. Normal services were resumed at 6 p.m.

The busmen contend that the proposed changes in the services, which come into effect next Sunday, will result in a worsening of their conditions so far, as duty schedules are concerned and that they will suffer financially. They say they intend to have a token strike each Saturday afternoon until the position is rectified. The decision is not backed by the Transport and General Workers' Union.

NO IRISH MILK THIS YEAR?

As milk production this year is likely to be adequate for demands in England, Scotland and Wales, the Ministry of Food do not consider it likely that they will have to bring milk from Northern Ireland.

In past years, many road tankers were used on British Railways' Irish Sea ferry services to bring milk to this country. If Irish milk has to be obtained, however, a ferry boat can be provided, notwithstanding the loss of the " Princess Victoria."

WAGE CLAIM SUBMITTED

AT a meeting of the National Council for the Omnibus Industry in London on Wednesday, the claim for a substantial increase in the wages of some 100,000 employees in the provincial bus companies, together with alterations and improvements in working conditions, was submitted.
