Complaints that haulage concerns are failing, despite warnings, to observe conditions as to wages and hours, resulted in a number of operators in the Newcastle area being brought before an official of the Ministry of Labour, last week, to state their reasons for alleged default. Mr. J. Tarbit, of the National Union of Municipal Workers and a joint secretary of the Northern Conciliation Board, attended.

It was stated that the Union contemplated taking strong action against employers who failed to observe the agreed conditions of labour, and it was possible that representations might be made to the Licensing Authorities.

FALSE STATEMENT ALLEGED: COURT ACTION.

At Cupar Sheriff 'Court, last Friday, Mr. David Connie, Factory House. Buckhaven, was charged with having made a false statement regarding a hirepurchase agreement, at a sitting of the Northern Scotland Licensing Authority at Cupar, on March 6, with a view to obtaining a variation of an A licence.

The charge was stated to be the first of its kind to come before the court. The trial of the accused, who pleaded not guilty, was fixed to take placeon October 9.

Simms's New Head Office.

The head office of Simms Motor Units, Ltd., has been transferred to Oak Lane, East Finchley, London, N.2. The premises at Gresse Street, London, W.1, are being retained for service and spare parts, but all correspondence should be sent to the head office.
