The Equipment and Engineering Co. have, since their inception in 1908, traded as a private partnership with Mr. E. E. Daglish and Mr. W. C. Lorkin as partners. On June 1st of this year they were transformed into a private limited company, the gentlemen mentioned being the joint managing directors. We understand that Mr. W. T. Robson and Mr. A. Vickers, who have been associated with the business for many years, have been elected to the board of directors, together with Mr. P. V. Fearon, late of the Brush Electrical Engineering Co., Ltd.

Canadian Lorry Exports.

Official returns just issued show that 1,039 vans, lorries, buses and chassis of a value of £75,147 were exported from Canada during April last, as compared with 1,145 vehicles in the corresponding month of 1927. India is by far the largest customer, being credited with 492 vehicles, or nearly 50 per cent, of the total. The balance is divided, in the order named, between Panama, Chile, Egypt, West Africa, Colombia, Portugese Africa and the Straits Settlements.

A Penzance Proposal.

Penzance Watch Committee has considered a letter from the Great Western Railway Co., the National Omnibus and Transport Co., Ltd., and Messrs. Jenkins Garage objecting to the proposal of the council that all licensed buses having a seating capacity for over 14 persons should carry a licensed conductor. Action in the matter has been deferred while the head constable obtains information as to the regulations in force in other areas.

A Higher Standard Needed.

The town clerk of Lowestoft has been instructed to give a general intimation to the owners of motor coaches licensed locally that a much stricter examination of the vehicles will be made in future, and that unless they are of a better standard than SW:11C of those which have been submitted for inspection this year, licence.s will not be granted.

A County Council and a Corporation's Bus Bill.

The parliamentary committee of the West Riding County Council reports that the Bill promoted by the Rotherham Corporation enables the corporation to run trolley-buses and motorbuses on additional routes in county areas and consolidates existing enact

meats. Clauses for the protection ef the interests of the county council having been agreed to with the promoters, it became unnecessary for the county council to be represented before the committee of the House of Commons. One of the clauses provides that the consent of the county council is required to any agreement relating to the running of buses on main roads.

The Bill had been further amended by the committee so that the corporation may not enter into agreements with other bodies with reference to any bus route outside a radius of 15 miles from Rotherham.
