Au imposing exhibit of five machines

is staged by this well.kaown maker_

Daring a visit last week to Coventry, when taking a final look round in that city with a special view to the pee-Show inspection of special models destined for Olympia, the Maudslay Co., Ltd., Park. side, Coventry, was of course early in our list of calls. During a walk round the company's works we saw the three-ton and five-Ion chassis which are now exhibited, in an advanced stage of completion, the remaining show models being away at the body builders.

The five-ton model. particulars of which were published exclusively in these columns in the issue dated 27th February of this year, was the cynosure not only of ourselves but of several visitors who were down on business from the north of England, and who happened to be at the Parkside Works at the same time as ourselves. It. was only natural that we should expose a photographic plate on so fine a model as the fivetanner; we reproduce the photograph. The five machines which arc staged at Olympia, each of which is of standard type, embody the characteristic Maudslay features of high-class material throughout, absolute reliability of workmanship, and ease of access to all vital parts of both engine and chassis. The exhibits include two chassis, ; one is a five-tonner, fitted with a fourcylinder engine of 40 h.p. R.A.C. rating. The engine and gearbox are mounted on a substantial rolled-steel subframe; the gearbox is provided with four speeds and reverse. The transmission is by means of propeller shaft and double-reduction spur and bevel gearing, suitakly enclosed

and mounted on the Maodslay pateni; bridge type of weldless-steel rear axle. The road e heck, are of cast steel.

The other chassis, which i$ staged next to the company's standard five-loaner, in this ease has an engine rated at 32.2 h.p. ; its final drive is by means of worm and worn, wheel.

One of the completed machines which is staged is a very fine example of 28-seated torpedo char-it-banes body mounted on a standard three-ton .chassis.

This should prove of exceptional interest to those visitors to Olympia who are cote templating, further provincial services.

The fourth Maudslay exhibited is the most recent of a fleet of machines which has just been supplied to Lever Bros., Ltd., and consists of a box-van body mounted on a three-ton chassis. ThG remaining model staged is the company's 30-ewt. machine. which is fitted with a 20.1 h.p. R. A.C. rating engine and a worm-drive back axle.
