B. M. Fair and Co., 3, Gt. Winchester Street, London, E.G.

114] THE MEA MAGNETO. (144 In order to demonstrate the efficiency of the Mea magneto " with the bell-shaped magnet," Messrs. Fair and Co. have staged a large-sized appliance of this kind. This is joined up to four sparking plugs of

fairly large size ; these attract the attention of the visitrirs by the fat sparks continually flashing from the electrodes. On either side of this exhibit is to be found a. series of power-driven magnetos ; these are joined up to Mea sparking plugs, which all do their quota in attracting notice. These magnetos are run at varying speeds in order that users may judge for themselves the richness of the sparking, both at a high and a low number of revolutions per minute. A small window enables the driver to see at a. glance the firing point for each plug. This is done by means of plain figures which appear in turn under the window. Mr. Bernard Metz will be happy to give further details to callers.

Fastnut, Ltd., 115, Newgate Street, E.C.

96] SPANNERS, WASHERS, WRENCHES, ETC. 1.9G This exhibitor is showing a nicely-assorted range of its celebrated " Fastnut " washers, which is one of the very few approved devices to prevent a nuts' shaking loose, no matter how it vibrates. The Daimler Co. is a believer in these washers, as also is the L.G.O.C. It is useful to note that insurance companies reduce certain of their premiums if this class of washer be fitted. Another exhibit interesting to the practical motorist is the " Fastfit " wrench, which can take different sizes of nuts, square or hexagon, and ratchets. This stand is a handy place of call for the garage foreman who is renewing his supplies of tools and accessories.

Hoffmann Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Chelmsford.

141] HIGHLY-ACCURATE BALL BEARINGS. [141 The ball bearings made by Hoffmann are guaranteed, as is well known, to be accurate to 1/10,000 in. The two bearings taken from work on a taxicab in London service form a very interesting exhibit in themselves. The big array of " Hoffmann's " for use in various component parts of a. chassis is attractively staged, while the testing appliances shown will also create undoubted interest. The respective powers required to turn over shafts fitted with ball, roller or plain bearings, shown in a graphic manner, will do much to illustrate the value of this class of friction-reducing component..

George Fischer Steel and Iron Works, Ltd., Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

95] A MAKER OF CAST-STEEL WHEELS. 05

An interesting exhibit of steel wheels and castings is to be found in the left-hand gallery. The steel wheel for commercial-motor vehicles has made good, and here the interested visitor will find chassis corn ponents which will no doubt appeal to him. There is a great variety of steel wheels and rings for both light and heave type vehicles. These steel castings are, of course, an essential part of many modern chassis, a-nd this manufacturer can show a number of transmission parts such as differential housings, flywheels with fan attachment, sprocket wheels, chain eases, brake shoes, etc., etc. Many of the exhibits are only inertly machined to show the quality and grain of the metal.
