The Mandslay Co. makes a very effective display of its soundlybuilt vomenercial models. These comprise two chassis,a couple of vans and a smart char-a-hence. The char-k-banes, which is a wormdriven machine, has a 30 h.p. engine. and a very beautifully-finished torpedo body, the whole vehicle having been built to the order of P. Eastwood, Ltd., which company has branches in Burnley, Leeds, and ether North-country towns. The larger of the two box vans is one of a batch. of 12 of special design built for Lever Bros., of Sun
light Soap fame. This is of entirely special construction, and has a double reduction gear live axle whilst the smaller of the two delivery vans, which has been built for Buckingham, Ltd., of Bradford Street Birmingham, is intended
for loads of 30 cwt., and has a worm-driven axle. A worm-driven 30 h.p. three-ton chassis is also staged, together with a 40 h.p. ayeton chassis with a double-reductiongear live back axle. This is a worthy successor of the commercial model with which the Mandalay Co. won the gold medal for its class in the R. AC. commercial vehicle trials in 1907, and visitors to the Show should not fail to examine it and the three-ton chassis, and pay particular attention to the design of the live back axle, as the Mandelay Co. was certainly the first to produce an axle for a heavy model oa these lines, although there are many others now built on similar lines to be seen on other stands in the hall. The whole of the load on this axle is taken by a solid forging, and the transmission gears, shafts, etc., may be removed if they require attention, and this without involving the. use of jacks or other extraneous aid. The Maudslay stand is one of the largest in the Show, and the management has not made the mistake into which many other exhibitors have fallen, namely, that of attempting to show too many vehicles in a given space. Each model is displayed to the best advantage, and there is ample space for the visitor comfortably to make that detailed inspection which these exhibits warrant.
