-mers For Action, the group ich instigated the fuel )tests in 2000, has called off threatened action agalnst permarket giant Tesco.

David Handley, the leader of , was in dispute with the perrnarket over what ndley claims is Tesco's policy driving down the prices paid suppliers.

The FFA had threatened to ickade Tesco's regional distriLion centres unless it was given a face-to-face meeting with the chief executive Sir Terry Leahy.

Leahy is WI not prepared to meet the FFA, but an agreement has been reached under which the group will meet Colin Smith, Tesco's commercial director, and Steve Murrell, the director in charge of meat buying.

Small-scale protests outside the depots began last November; so far they have been peaceful.

A spokesman for Tesco says: "Confrontation has been avoided and we look forward to constructive discussions at which we can listen to the FFA's concerns and share our under standing of the industry and knowledge of customers."

Morris Vellacott, vice-chairman of the FFA, says: "We were prepared to close all of Tesco's distribution centres, and we will always consider blockading again because we feel that Tesco, and other buyers, should listen to producers' concerns."
