Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Moveable bulkheads help operators maximise flexibility. They can be transverse or longitudinal, with the space converted into adjustable-width lanes for pallets or roll cages. The bulkheads can be rigid GAP panels or flexible plasticcovered foam. They stow in the roof when not required, sliding on channels in the roof or at the tap of the sidewall.

Weight is always an issue. Many early GRP moving bulkheads had gas-strut-assisted lifting, but performance can be poor at very low temperatures and the gas cylinders need regular replacement. Solomon pioneered the use of counterbalance springs as a solution. Now RVL has introduced a sling bulkhead with stainless-steel counter-balance spring. To minimise thermal paths the bulkhead is fitted to composite plastic hinges.

Where weight is critical, flexible bulkheads have a distinct advantage. Len Norman, managing director of JR Industries, says its Loadmaker bulkheads typically weigh around 37kgless than half the weight of a GAP bulkhead.

The latest 1M1300 comes in two mg sections that lift into the roof or can be opened to the side of the trailer. The 1M1300 is attached to split-section stainless-steel poles with universal joints at either end that allow

the pole to swivel upwards or, door-style, outwards.

This makes load access easier and reduces the amount of cold air escaping from colder compartments.
