Lord Routes is to retire from the chairmanship of the Western Hemisphere Exports Council, which post he has held without interruption since the formation (A' the council (formerly called the Dollar Export Council) in 1951. Lord Rootes will be 70 this year.

In 1950 Mr. Boardman became financial accountant of the Standard Motor Co. and StandardTriumph group financial accountant in 1059_ Mr. Cethin Bradley has joined the Bowes Group public relations department as overseas Press relations officer. Mr. Bradley was formerly for seven years Press and public relations officer of the Rover Motor Co. Ltd., and subsequently a director of Good Relations Ltd. (Public Relations Consultants).

Mr. S. W. Bainbridge, who joined the Ministry of Transport as an information officer in 1934 and is now principal information officer, is to retire at the end of this month. Before joining the Ministry, Mr. Bainbridge was the Whitehall representative of the Central News Agency.

Mr. J. C. Pogson has been appointed operations manager of Total Oil Products (G.B.) Ltd. in succession to Mr. W. A. Beattie. Mr. Pogson, who is 45, was formerly chief engineer of the company in South Africa. Mr. B. W. A. Tyrrell, who has been with Total Oil Products since 1961, is the new head of the lubricants section.

Following. the retirement of Mr. James Courtney. the Ulster Transport Authority has appointed Mr. Norman G. Russell as chief engineer. He has been deputy chief engineer since 1956, following service with the U.T.A. and its predecessors since 1934. Mr. Russell will take up his new position on February 1.

Mr, E. W. Pedlow, secretary of the British Motor Corporation, has been appointed a director of Austin Crompton Parkinson Electric Vehicles Ltd. Mr.. Pedlow beanie assistant secretary of the British Motor Corporation in 1955 and four years later undertook additional duties as private secretary to Mr. G. W. Harriman, who at that time was deputy chairman of B.M.C. In 1961 he was appointed secretary of B.M.C. and at the same time relinquished his position with 1V1 r. I la i man.

Mr. S. A. Finnis, a vice-president of the Institute of Transport and general manager of British Transport Docks Board, has been appointed chairman of the Institute's examination committee in succession to the late Mr. R. Ci, Grout.

Three new directors have recently been appointed to the boards of three oldestablished London coach operators, all now within the George Ewer group. Mr. K. S. Brindle has joined the board of Orange Luxury Coaches Ltd_ .and will serve as director and general manager. At the same time he has been appointed grotto service and tours manager to all the coach companies. Mr. L. C. Poulter, the chief accountant in London, has been appointed to the board of Classique Coaches Ltd. and Mr. T. McLachlan has been appointed director and general manager of Fallowfield and Britten Ltd, and commercial and licensing manager to the grow,. Mr. Brindle has been with the group for 34 years, and Mr. Poulter for 30 years. Both Mr. Brindle and Mr. McLachlan have also been appointed to the board of Batten's Coaches Ltd., and Mr. Poulter is also secretary of Classique Coaches and Batten's Coaches.

Mr. E. C. Beck has been appointed to the Export Credits • Guarantee Department advisory council. Mr. Beck is chairman of John Mowlem and Co. Ltd. He is also chairman of Scaffolding Great Britain (Holdings) Ltd.; and a director of several other firms in the construction industry,.

Staff changes are announced by Small and Parkes Ltd., Manchester, a member of the Cape Asbestos group of companies. Mr. G. E. Colson, home sales manager, is leaving the company to take up an appointment as marketing director of Tetrosyl (Sales)Ltd. Mr. A. R. A. Jack, for the past two years the Scottish and N.E. England area manager of Small and Parkes, replaces Mr. Colson. Mr. I. G. McIntosh, who for the past eight years has represented the company in Eastern Scotland, replaces Mr. Jack. Mr. B. Lomas, at present in the home sales division, has been appointed Birmingham depot manager with effect from January 1 last. After lasi week's meeting of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers at which Dr. Hundt of Daimler-Benz read his paper (see page 38) scrolls were presented to Mr. G. Mackenzie Junner, founder and past president of the I.R.T.E. and former editor of The Commercial Motor, and Mr. G. Curtis, until recently hon. secretary to commemorate their service to the Institute. A presentation —a cheque and a plaque—was also made to Mr. J, K. Bennett, who recently relinquished his position as secretary of the Institute.

Mr. John C. Dudgeon has retired from the board of W. P.Butterfield (Engineers) Ltd., of Shipley, Yorkshire, Mr. Dtidgeon, who is 65, is a Freeman of the City of London and a member of a City Livery Company, Recently Mr„ Dudgeon was guest of honour at a dinner to mark his retirement and attended by directors and executives of the Butterfield companies.

Mr. W. J. Lane has been appointed a director of George W. King Ltd., of Stevenage, Herts.

The Minister of Transport has appointed Viscount Downe and County Aid. IL Finegan as members of the Transport Users' Consultative Committee for the North Eastern area. Viscount Downe has previously served as a member of the T.U.C.C. for the Yorkshire area. County Aid. Finegan is chairman of the Tees-side Railless Traction Board.

Obituary

NUE regret to record the death of Mr. VII E. C. Eggleton and Mr. C. F. Haywood,

Mr. Eggleton, who died last week, was Scottish divisional chairman of the Traders Road Transport Association, lifepresident and founder member of the Scottish Transport Managers' Club. group transport manager of Rowan and Boden Ltd., Paisley, and was for some long time Scottish divisional chairman of the Industrial Transport Association. In his early days Mr. Eggleton was prominent in Scottish motorcycling sport, though his career lay for mans' years in the insurance world, from which he joined Rowan and Baden in 1953. He served with the Royal Air Force in both world wars. •Mr. Eggleton had been a member of the T.R.T.A. divisional council for over 10 years and was latterly also a member of the national council.

Mr. Haywood, who died suddenly in hospital on January 16, was editor of Motor Transport and Bus and Coach from 1931 until his retirement in 1953 after 48 years' service with the publishers of those journals. He joined the publishers, lliffe and Sons Ltd. (now the Associated Iliffe Press), in 1905, becoming an editorial assistant on the staff of The Amocar and after short periods on other journals he joined Motor Traction, predecessor of Motor Transport, in 1908. After service with the French army, Royal Navy and R.A.F. in the First World War he returned to Motor Transport in 1919. Mr. Haywood was 75.
