EXCLUSIVE rights to operate over the 1--A new Clifton Bridge, Nottingham, have been granted to Nottingham Corporation by the East Midland Traffic Commissioners. Previously, they used Trent Bridge to serve Clifton Estate, sharing the route with West Bridgford Urban. District Council and the South Notts Bus Co..

Ltd. . . • . . •

An application . by. SOuth Notts to transfer their „buses to the new bridge (The . Cortimercial Motor, . January 10) has been refused. Instead, they will now use Trent • Bridge jointly with . West Bridgford.

The maximum fare between Nottingham and Clifton will remain at 7d. on all services. The corporation had asked for a bd. maximum because they would be using .a shorter route, but objections by the other two operators have been upheld. In their decision, the Commissioners explain: "It is in the public interest that the residents of the estate should be free to travel by either route without fare discriminations."

They point out that a lower fare over the new bridge might make essential services along the existing route uneconomic.
