Last month's announcement that CM is setting up an Operators' Panel to give its verdict on new and existing law produced an enthusiastic

response — but there are still places for a few more members.

Several readers have already come forward to join CM'S Operators' Panel which will provide a sounding board for a range of new transport laws that are set to come into force or have just been introduced.

The panel will consist of a range of operators up and down the country willing to talk to our reporters about the likely effects of new legislation.

The obvious example is the Working Time Directive — the way operators adapt to this will be crucial to the health of the industry. Your experiences could help others reorganise their businesses to greater effect, limiting the damage this legislation could cause to the industry's competitiveness.

Other forthcoming laws include a revision of the drivers' hours regulations; graduated speeding penalties; new fixed penalties; driver training regulations; and the introduction of digital tachographs.

As a panel member your views and experiences of these new laws will he invaluable.

We want your views

We are not asking you to give up much of your time. Our reporters researching specific aspects of legislation will phone members of the Operators' Panel to gauge members' response to that law and, if it has been in place for some time, to discuss their experiences, both good and bad.

We hope panel members will serve for two years, after which time fresh recruits will be drafted in to ensure that opinions and experiences do not become stale.
