• A haulier has been told he must pay the 22,000 spent on his stolen fuel card even though he had cancelled it two days beforehand.

Chipping Sodbury-based Steve Gill & Sons is in dispute with Croft Fuels over its claim that all stolen cards take 48 hours to cancel if they are being used outside the UK. Gill, who hauls bulk tippers on international work, was told the card was stolen on 7 February.

Croft Fuels, which uses the Q8-owned IDS fuel card, told Gill the 48-hour delay is mentioned in its terms and conditions. But Gill says he saw these terms and conditions only recently.

Gill's other stolen fuel card, a Cosmos card, was cancelled within 20 minutes of his ph call on 14 February. "If it's : posed to be one of the ft cards around, why does it ' 48 hours to stop it?" Gill aslo.

He must also pay the .£7 spent on the cards before driver told him they had t stolen. "I don't know if I can in business if I have to pay the full 29,000," Gill adds.
