If you are of the opinion that drunk drivers get off too lightly, here's a case that might change your mind. At Cork astrict Court in the Irish Republic, Judge Joseph Mangan recently handed out a 75-year driving ban! The deserving recipient is 22-year-old Paul Healy of Mayfield, Co Cork, who already boasts a string of motoring convictions, The court heard that on 22 February last year Healy stole a car after it had been abandoned by its owner following an accident. He had not got far when he was stopped by police on a routine patrol. Not only was he found to be more than three times over the legal limit, but in the course of the investigation Healy assaulted Garda Annette Leahy.

The rogue was given a five-month jail sentence for the drink-driving offence and a six-month jail sentence for the assault on Garda Leahy. The 75year ban imposed by the judge means that Leahy will be 97 before he can legally drive again.
