• An Irish truck driver has been cleared of killing five people by dangerous driving on the direction of the court.

Two children, two nurses and a minibus driver were killed when Victor Teggart's truck collided with the school bus in September 1998 on the N11 in County Wicklow. Teg,gart pleaded not guilty in the circuit criminal court to dangerous driving causing death.

He was driving a three-yearold Scania rigid for Armaghbased haulier Noel Zwecker when he crossed the road and hit the

oncoming Transit minibus. But what were described as inconsistencies in the prosecution case led the trial judge to instruct the jury to return a notguilty verdict in the case.

The judge said two witnesses testified a blue car had crossed to the wrong side of the read and caused Teggart to swerve into the path of the minibus.

But other prosecution witnesses said Teggart's truck had crossed the road after coming around a wide bend, and continued in a straight line to collide with the minibus.
