Keywords : Ferry, Larne, Tilbury

A" DRIVE-ON,. drive-off" ship, the " Cerdic Ferry," was launched at Troon, Ayrshire, last week. She will carry up to 100 road haulage vehicles on regular • crossings ,between Till-sitrY and Antwerp and Tilbury and Rotterdam.

The " Cerdic.Ferry " is the third new ship built in the past four years for The Transport Ferry Service. A fourth vessel will be launched in the summer.

The drive-on, drive-off type of ferry service is to be extended to the Clyde in the next two or three years. Ardrossan, Ayrshire, which already has a container service to Ireland, will be the port selected for this new development, it was stated in Glasgow last week by Mr. J. H. Bustard, general manager of the Atlantic Steam Navigation Company.

PRESTON-DUBLIN FERRY I T is now likely that the Atlantic Steam Navigation Co., may start. operating their transport ferry service from Preston to Dublin, as well as to Larne and Belfast, some time this year.

Up to now the Dublin dockers have refused to handle the vehicle and container ferry service, because they feared that fewer men would be required to discharge and load the vessels.

Negotiations are now ,.proceeding in Fire for decasualization for dockers, on the lines of the schemes in this country. If these are satisfactorily completed the dockers' objection would be removed.
