MR. W. J. LOWE, who for about 10 years was assistant secretary of the Federation of Calico Printers, Manchester, has been appointed secretary ot the Yorkshire Area of A.R.O.
MR. ROBERT TAYLOR, general secretary of the Scottish Horse and Motormen's Association, and chairman of the Scottish T.U.C. General Council,
MR. F. PARISH has become a partner in the leVarpool Transport Co., his appointment dating from January 1. He replaces Mr. C. E. Macaulay, who vacated this position in December. Mr. Parish, incidentally, has been with the company for 15 years. MR. HAROLD GOODWIN, secretary of Blythe and Berwick (1928), Ltd., the Bradford haulage contractor, has been appointed a member of the Bradford National Service Committee. Mr. Goodwin is actively associated with the North-Eastern Division of the C.M.U.A.
M. FRANK RULLEN, director of Giles and Bullen, Ltd., King's Lynn, and chairman of the King's Lynn Sub-area of A.R.O., has been elected this year's president of the King's Lynn Chamber of Trade, also chairman of the Employers' Panel of the Eastern Area Road Haulage Wages Board.
MR, G. J. JOINT has been appointed manager of a new district office and warehouse 'which is to be opened shortly in Southampton at West Bay Road, New Dock, by the Firestone Tyre and Rubber Co., Ltd. Mr. Joint has a wide knowledge of the tyre trade and has represented the company in Hampshire for a long period.
LT.-COL. NORMAN MACLEOD, C D.S.O., has been nominated by the Minister of Transport to servo on the board of directors of the Western Highlands and Islands Transport Services. This is in accordance with a contract entered into between the Government and 1/avid MacBrayne, Ltd., in December.
DR. HAWORTH, PH.D. , M.Sc. , the technical representative of Leyland Motors, Ltd., returned to England last Friday from the City of Riga. Accompanying him were two officials of the city, who will stay at the company's headquarters for some time to settle outstanding points of design in connection with the 2100,000 order for buses, with which he returned.
