Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the Hull and East Riding 2-1 area committee of the Yorkshire division of the Traders Road Transport Association stresses the urgent need for improvement and development of the road systems in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire (sec The Commercial Motor, December 10).

The most urgent need is for substantially improved links with Al. The existing connections—Hull-Bawtry (A63 and A6I4) and Hull-Al via Selby (A63)—are totally inadequate for the volume of traffic carried, says the report.

Referring to the possibility of a Humber bridge, the report says that any major road development plan which fails to take account of 'the immense possibilities offered by a bridge are not realistic. The construction of a bridge, however, is essentially a longerterm project and the committee believes that the immediate need for improved links is so pressing that the developments mentioned earlier should be carried out whether or not a bridge is eventually constructed.

On the route north via Beverley the committee considers the only real answer to be a by-pass of the town itself.
