Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A FORMER CHESTER city councillor has been forced to close his haulage firm, citing rising fuel prices.

Hugo Deynem has placed Wentworth Haulage of Oakmere, Cheshire into voluntary insolvency. The firm made a loss last year and while it has been breaking even this year Deynem says it was unlikely to stay profitable.

"We did everything we could," he adds. -Customers were willing to pay the extra rates as fuel went up, but then fuel would

increase again by another 4p. We wanted to put a monthly fuel charge in place but customers were not open to this."

Deynem launched the business in 1994, transporting building materials around the North-West and nationwide. He later moved into general haulage.

He plans to retain his CPC and see how the industry performs before deciding on his next move, saying he will consider opening a trailer-hire business.
