Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TLS VEHICLE RENTAL has abandoned its policy of trying to be "all things to all people" in the rental market and has disposed of 255 tractors and refuse vehicles to Hitachi Capital Vehicle Solutions for £5 .5m.

According to marketing director Sean Welham, the Cheshirebased company will now be concentrating on its core market of light commercial vehicles.

"Light commercials were our core strategy but as we grew over 25 years we would add different vehicles when customers made requests," he explains. "Pretty much anything with an engine and wheels became part of our rental fleet, including ambulances, construction vehicles, refrigerated units and tractors."

Welhatn says it became very difficult to manage such a diverse fleet, particularly the maintenance. The old-style policy of operating across a range of market sectors also left the company exposed to the fortunes of particular industries.

"We decided to concentrate on our core van rental business so we could add value rather than attempt to be all things to all people," he adds, Andrew Way, TLS managing director, says over the past few years the company has been gradually disposing of vehicles that didn't fit into its core strategy. The sale to Hitachi marks the conclusion of this process.

-It is a strategy that has worked very well for us." he concludes.

"TLS is in better financial shape today than it has been for many years."
