• MPs are calling for an investigation into the sell-off of BR's parcels business Rea after the Government released figures showing that the business will effectively be sold to its management for £1. Under the terms of the sale BR has agreed to give Red Star a £1.5m rent subsidy and pick up its redundancy bill, which could reach £7m.

• : Owner-drivers could be in line to win up to £4.6m of clothing distribution contracts after Tibbett & Britten announced it is to drop hundreds of small clothing distribution contracts. Up to 100 drivers, warehousemen and clerical staff could lose their jobs from 25 September when Tibbett & Britten shakes up its Fashion Logistics Network division in a £1.5m bid to stem continuing losses.

• Eurotunnel's share price collapsed 17% on Monday as the City took fright at rumours that the company is in emergency talks with its bankers. Eurotunnel denies the rumour but says it will issue a revised profits forecast in October. Revenues are far below the amount needed to satisfy its £2m daily interest payments.

• A seven-mile trail of en off4 was spilled in Calderclale, North Yorks when carcasses fell off an uncovered truck carrying 70,000 dead chickens last week. Calderdaie Council highways department says this is not the first time it has been forced to clear dead chickens from the road.
