Does Window Lacquer AitucH controversy has Reduce the 'Splinter Ivlarisen concerning the value Danger of lacquers in reducing the

danger from flying glass during air raids, and, in this connection, a letter received by Glasso Paint Products, Ltd., Wadsworth Road, Perivale, Middlesex, concerning its Glasso splinterproof lacquer, is of interest. Dated July 27, it states that when a high-explosive bomb dropped in the roadway in front of a house, at the back, where only blast was felt, the treated windows held, but untreated windows in neighbouring houses were broken. At the front, whilst all windows and most of the frames were broken by fragments, etc., the lacquer held the flying glass in such a way that it fell into the rooms in a condition resembling miniature rolls of carpet with no jagged edges, and a person bit by it was not even scratched.

The projected routes would cover 80,000 miles, including about 2,000 miles of access roads to camps, etc.

Of couise, in numerous instances, one or more copies may be received by a concern and passed around its staff; when paying visits we have frequently seen on the covers lists of 20 or more people to whom the paper goes in order, so that those low down on these may not see the issues for a considerable time. We have, on occasion, referred to positions vacant, or qualified men available, and, often, letters concerning these continue to be received several weeks later. Advertisers must also have noticed this tendency.

See that Your Lamps WITH the earlier approach

are Overhauled " of the black-out, it is essen Now tial that drivers should look to their lighting equipment. In many cases, where head-lamp masks are not protected by one or other of the quite cheap and efficient dust and water excluders which are now marketed, they may have become rusty internally, whilst the diffusers are probably dirty. It may be necessary to dismantle them for scraping and reblacking with a dull finish, also for cleaning the diffusers. This attention will make a great difference to the light emitted. Incidentally, too, many head lamps are throwing the beam high and should be adjusted to meet the regulations. There is likely to be a new black-out "drive," so early attention is advisable.
