Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Hopes are rising again that Steve Bryant, the owner-driver in a Moroccan jail on u drugs conviction. could be free by the end of the summer. The Essex driver's Labour Euro-MP, Hugh Kerr, came away last week from a meeting with the Moroccan ambassador to the European Union, Rachad Bouhlal, "hopeful" that Bryant could receive a King's pardon either next month or in July.

"The ambassador reported that Steve's requests for a pardon have gone to the King and are being given favourable con

sideration,” says a spokeswoman for Kerr. However, she guarded against too much optimism—Bryant and his family have already been disappointed by missed opportunities to free him from his Tangier jail.

Kerr brought up with the ambassador Bryant's allegations that a Portuguese driver in his jail had also been been a vi,•• tim of the same drugs gang.

Bryant has spent three years in prison after he was convicted of carrying cannabis in a load of squid picked up from a Moroccan factory.
