As a heavy-vehicle driver for 20 years, I am disgusted to find that my application for an hgv driving licence has been refused because I have not been driving during the 12 months from February 2 1969 to February 1 1970.
For this period I have been working as a warehouse supervisor, a promotion from my driving job, but I want to get an hgv licence in case I should ever want to return to driving.
Now I will have to go to the expense and trouble of taking a test while many drivers or mechanics of little experience of driving have scraped through.
I think this system of deciding on exemptions from the test is unfair and that a much longer period of qualifying time should have been made necessary.
