• A bold bid to tempt Manchester businessmen to forsake their chauffeurdriven limousines in favour of bus transport between the city centre and the millionaire stockbroker belt of Cheshire has been started by SELNEC PTE with a new Executive Express commuter coach service.

Beginning this week, the service operates Mondays to Fridays from Delahays Road, Hale Barns (8.05 a.m.) and the return journey is from Peters Street /Deansgate at 5.15 p.m. There are seven pick-up points in the Hale Barns district and eight in Manchester.

Passengers who book more than two return journeys in the week are picked up at their own gates in the mornings and dropped at their houses in the evenings. Tickets are priced at lOs for one daily return, down to 7s each for a weekly block of five, printed with the holder's name. Single tickets are 5s each.

Painted in the SELNEC orange and white livery, the Plaxton Panorama Elite /Bedford VAL 70 52-seat coach is equipped with a number of luxury features additional to the standard specification that includes saloon heating, fresh air ventilation, controllable air jets above each seat and demisting for side windows. The extra facilities include two-way radio that allows passengers to put through phone calls to homes and offices and piped radio to individual speakers.

A hostess Inspectress is her official rank—who was a Salford clippie for six years, has been trained by two ex-airline stewardesses in her duties, such as serving drinks, issuing morning papers and providing packs of cards for the specially installed games /coffee tables.

SELNEC PTA chairman Ald Harry Sharp was among the passengers on Monday's inaugural run, prior to which the coach was on public view at Hale Barns where it created considerable interest. "We have already had more than 200 serious inquiries from intending commuters on this route", said a PTE spokesman.
