SS, Out-of-season Tours Bid Adjourned: An application by Hastings Coachways Ltd. to operate seven-day tours exclusively for people over 55 years of age was adjourned by the South Eastern Traffic Commissioners at Eastbourne on Tuesday. For Hastings Coachways, Mr. G. Hurst said that the intention was to run to five destinations between April and May and September and October to Weston-super-Mare and Bournemouth, at an inclusive cost of £12 10s.; Bournemouth, Plymouth and Minehead for £13; Cornwall, £13 13s.; Devon £12 10s. and Bridlington, Morecambe and Blackpool, £15. There were eight road objectors.

Switch Granted—L.A.'s Contract Not Accepted : A nine-vehicle Contract A to A licence switch was granted by the Metropolitan L.A., Mr, D. I. R. Muir, on Tuesday to H. Davy and Sons Ltd., of Walworth, after BR.S. and BR. withdrew objections. For Davy, Mr. M. H. Jackson-Lipkin said that nine vehicles worked for Lines Brothers under a contract which expired in April and May this year. The new form of contract which was laid down by Mr. Muir, which stipulated that there must be guaranteed monthly payments for the vehicles and that it must not include the vehicles working for any subsidiary companies, was not acceptable to Lines Brothers, although they wanted to continue to employ the applicant to do their work. The applicant had in fact been carrying for subsidiary companies of Lines Bros. without knowing it, he added.

W. Midland Refusals: "Seldom have the Commissioners seen two major applications resting on such uncertain and insubstantial foundations ", said the W. Midland Traffic Commissioners this week in refusing applications by Berresfords Motors Ltd. and Potteries Motor Traction Co. Ltd. (both heard on April 20) for new picking-up vehicle allowance and route grants in connection with Potteries-N. Wales express and excursion services. The Commissioners, said the written decision, had had to get used to dog fights between these two parties (each had objected to the other's applications): the Commissioners hoped that in everyone's interests these would not continue but that, if they did, "at least the bone of contention will have some vestige of meat or marrow in it before it is thrown into the arena ".
