Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ANEW range of 7-ton chassis has been introduced by Seddon Diesel Vehicles, Ltd., Oldham, Lanes, at the highly competitive basic price of £1,528. A feature of the specification is the use of the Leyland 0.350 105 b.h.p. oil engine as standard equipment. No others are offered.

Four types of chassis are offered: general haulage models with wheelbases of 14 ft. 6 in. and 13 ft. 6 in.; a tipper with a wheelbase of 9 ft.; and a tractor unit with a 7-ft. wheelbase. The loadcarrying chassis are rated for a maximum gross weight of 11 tons, whilst the tractor can operate at 16 tons gross train weight. The approximate chassis and cab weight of the long-wheelbase load carrier is 3 tons 2 cwt.

With the exception of the engine and gearbox, the chassis specification follows closely that of the Mark 15 7-tonner which the new models supersede. The Leyland engine carries a 14-in.-diameter clutch and is used with the LeylandAlbion five-speed constant-mesh gearbox, which is available with a sixth overdrive top ratio at extra cost.

The spiral-bevel rear axle has a reduction ratio of 6.16 to I. Girling hydraulic brakes are employed, assisted by a Clayton Dewandre Hydrovac, the total frictional area being 376.5 sq. in. The chassis frame has a maximum depth of 8} in., with 21-in, flanges.

1Viarles -cam-and-double-roller steering gear is specified. Turning circles of the various models are 60 ft. for the longwheelbase chassis, 40 ft. for the tipper and 30 ft. for the tractor. Semi-elliptic springs are employed at both axles, with helper leaves at the rear. Standard tyres are 8.25-20 in. (12-ply) mounted on 86.0-20 in. wheels with 5.1-in, offset, but 9.00-20-in. tyres can be supplied at extra cost.

A new cab has been developed. It is appreciably different in appearance from the previous Mark 15 cab. It has a deep wrap-round two-piece windscreen, and plastics panels are employed, as is the normal current Seddon practice.

The 14-ft. 6-in, wheelbase chassis has an overall length of 25 ft. 6 in. and can carry a 20-ft. body. The standard body offered by the chassis makers is 7 ft. 5 in. wide. The laden frame height is 2 ft. 9 in., and the overall height to the top of the cab is 7 ft. 8 in.
