Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AN order for 68 Comet tractors has been placed with Leyland Motors, Ltd., by British Road Services. They have also ordered 107 Albions-49 extralong wheelbase Victors and 58 Chieftains, 44 of them with the all-steel cab, fivespeed gearbox and hub-reduction rear axle.

The Comets will be generally similar to 800 models supplied previously. With a short wheelbase of 8 ft. 1 in. they will be Used with semi-trailers for a gross train weight of 17.-1 tons.

After receiving £450,000 orders from Iran in January, the Leyland group have now secured a further £150,000 order from that country covering 33 Leyland trucks and 16 trucks and 16 buses to be built by Albion. The truck orders include 20 tippers and a tractor complete with a 25-30-ton low-loading semi-trailer.

The Esso Petroleum Co., Ltd., have asked for 24 Leyland Beaver tractors and four Albion Caledonian tanker chassis, which will cost more than £80,000. The National Benzole Co., Ltd., have ordered five Caledonian tanker chassis and four Chieftain trucks from Albion, and the Cleveland Petroleum Co., Ltd., want three Leyland Beaver tractors.

SCOTrISH BOOKINGS TAKEN TOO SOON

A FROME coach company were crit

icized at Bristol, last week, for advertizing Scottish tours before securing a licence. Mr. S. W. Nelson, chairman of the Western Traffic Commissioners, said there was room for the tours, but they should not have taken bookings in advance of a grant.

The company, W. Higson and Co., Ltd., were opposed by Mr. G. Hillman, Westbury. in their application for extended Scottish tours. For the objector. Mr. T. a .Corpe said Mr. Hillman had been building up extended tours for 10 years. lligson's had taken things for granted by accepting bookings from an. area where another operator was licensed.

Mr. L. A. Briggs, for Higson•s, submitted that there was room in the area for two operators serving Scotland. Mr. Nelson agreed, saying it was in the public interest for the licence to be granted.

DAVIS EXPANSION

I–I A THREE-YEAR programme of

development and modernization at the premises of Godfrey Davis, Ltd.. Neasden, is almost completed. The company, who are main Ford dealers, now Occupy 92,000 sq. ft.

Of particular interest is their improved paint shop, which includes two booths for large commercial vehicles. There are specially tiled wall surfaces and flameproof lighting.

COACHBUILDERS CELEBRATE XACTLY 100 years old today are A. C.

Penman, Ltd., coachbuilders and engineers, Dumfries. To celebrate, they are giving a dinner for shareholders and employees which will also be attended by many guests from the industry.
