Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

something must be done about the parking problem, Mr. J. A. Sparks (Lab., Acton) said in the House of Commons last week. He warned that unless open parking or garage accommodation were provided the condition of streets in a few years' time would be appalling.

Mr. Sparks suggested that the Minister of Transport should establish a single national highway authority to take complete responsibility for roads and their construction.

Mr. Graham Page (Con., Crosby) urged that local authorities should be compelled to construct roads in accordance with proved safety methods drawn up by the Roads Research Laboratory.

CONDITIONS FOR AUTOMATION

SOME 160 shop stewards, claiming to speak for 135,000 workers in the motor industry, passed a resolution at a conference in Birmingham, last Sunday, demanding that negotiations should be opened at once between the employers and unions on conditions for the introduction of automation.

Higher wages and a 40-hour week were other demands. A reduction of fuel tax, a notable omission from the Budget, was also urged.

HEAVY HAUL BY WYNN THE first of five new generators for the I High Marnham Power Station left the works of the English Electric Co., Ltd., on Monday. Transport is being handled by Robert Wynn and Co., Ltd.

The generators each weigh 158 tons and are the largest yet shipped for the Central Electricity Generating Board. They will be carried on a lightweight transporter with an overall length of 143 ft.
