A HAULIER described at Newcastle .1-1 upon Tyne, last week, how he secured a contract for carrying school meals but did the work for only one day because he was not licensed for it. The• vehicle was restricted to furniture, household effects and workmen's coal within 10 miles, said Mr. Reginald Elliott, Peterlee, Durham.
He was seeking an extra vehicle on the B licence together with a radius extension to 20 miles and a condition covering school meals. The British Transport Commission objected, but withdrew when Mr. Elliott said he was not really interested in the furniture removals. His main aim was to get permission to carry school meals.
Granting the application, Mr. J. A. T. Hanlon, Northern Licensing Authority, said when the licence came up for renewal he would want to know what had been done during the year.
