Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A completely redesigned 4 x 4 tractor/tractive unit with a 10ft wheelbase will be shown by Universal Power Drives Ltd. at Earls Court. It will be powered by the Perkins V8510 diesel engine driving through a David Brown 536 five-speed direct-drive gearbox and a separately-mounted transfer/reduction gearbox to the front and rear axles.

A 10.5in. by 3in. pressed steel frame is used and this is reinforced from a point adjacent to the rear engine mountings to its rear end with a substantial angle pressing which doubles up the bottom flange and side web. The frame is capable of carrying a fifth-wheel. A 10-ton rear axle and 6-ton steering axle provide ample capacity for the vehicle's rating of 24 tons g.v.vv. and the ability to run the steering axle in a neutral gear makes for more economical road-going operation.

A dual circuit air-pressure braking system is used with lock actuators for parking.
