• A sharp increase in the number of contraventions of carriers' licences during 1967 has been reported by the Home Secretary, Mr. James Callaghan.

In his annual return of offences relating to motor vehicles the number of prosecutions in this category totalled 10,382 last year. compared with 8,141 in 1966.

There was also an increase in offences involving permitted hours of duty for lorry and bus drivers. The number of prosecutions for exceeding permitted hours in 1967 rose to 5,312 compared with 4,842 the year before.
