Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Most important breakthrough in years

The Ford Turbo 360 is a significant step forward in truck engine concept, design and engineering. It combines increased power with good economy and durability. Turbo-designed engines, now widely accepted by operators the world over, are the natural progression towards more power and efficiency.

Ford has more experience of this class of turbocharged engine than any other manufacturer in the country; Ford Industrial Engine Division has been producing a turbocharged diesel for the last three years, with great success, completing a total 8-year development programme.

The Turbo 360 truck engine is a breakthrough in the medium/heavy section of the commercial vehicle market, and shows Ford to be the clear leaders in the power field, both in actual specification and in the choice of engines available.

Thoroughly proved, thoroughly reliable

The new engine has been exhaustively tested under actual operating conditions, not only by Ford engineers but by many operators as well. The operators themselves have clocked up mileages varying from 35,000 to 70,000 in 12 months—a grand total of nearly a million miles; and in every instance they describe the Turbo 360 as impressive, with good pulling power and the capability of maintaining sustained high speeds. They report normal oil consumption, trouble-free service and improved fuel economy.

The cylinder head for the Turbo 360 is considerably stiffer—with an increased box section at the top deck—than the cylinder head on the naturally aspirated 360, Also, a stiffer block is provided to accommodate higher temperatures and pressures resulting from the increased power.

The Holset Turbocharger is mounted on the manifolds. Exhaust gases drive the vanes of the turbine, thereby increasing the flow of fresh air to the engine. This provides more complete combustion and increased volumetric efficiency. Yet the Holset is light and takes up very little space.

Engineered for supreme strength

The crankshaft utilises the latest technological advances, incorporating more manganese chrome molybdenum steel. The connecting rods have a thick s tion and large small-ends to prow maximum durability. Increased utili lion of fuel means increased heat the inlet valves use the latest he resistant materials. Pistons have a ca iron insert in the top compression ri groove for greater durability. Fist bowls are of 'Gothic arch' design speed up heat dissipation and give i proved temperature control. The t compression rings are of taper-wed design virtually eliminating blow-by a providing maximum cylinder-wall cc tact. The in-line injection pump a injectors have been specifically desigr to provide the proper amount of f for the increased air intake.

To provide sure-fire starts even dm to —20° F, thermostart units are fitte and an extra-duty radiator and fail-sz Cyclopac air cleaner are standard.

More payload, more profits

The total weight of the new Fo Turbo 360 is between 245 and 335 less than that of major competiti engines. This means that all the ext horsepower goes to the driving who to haul more payload. 10% mo power than the average of the competitive engines, yet with beti economy, means faster trips with increase in cost.
