-Ithe Minister of Labour to make grants or loans to industrial training boards. Last week the Minister, Mr. Kay Gunter, in a written reply, enumerated occasions on which he had decided to make such grants.

The whole of a board's administrative expenses would be met for the first 12 months of its existence and 25 per cent of current expenditure in connection with the provision of training courses for training officers, training supervisors and instructors. Because of the urgency for more trained persons the Minister proposes to increase the tate of this gran( to 50 per cent in the first 18 months of a hoard's existence. Additionally, 50 per cent of the cost of research undertaken or sponsored by a board would he met.

The Ministry of Labour would also make a contribution towards the cost of the first two periods of industrial training forming part of sandwich courses leading to an approved degree, award or diploma started within three years of September, 1965. For a period of live rears, 25 per cent of current expenses of additional places provided for "off the job " training would also be met.

The Minister said that he would also be prepared to consider applications from boards for loans to help them to =Quire any necessary fixed assets such as buildings or machines, or to provide working capital.
