THE Minister of Transport took a hand himself last week in the continuing deadlock over liner trains between the British Railways Board and the NUR. He saw a deputation from the railwayrien's executive led by their general ;ecretary, Mr. Sidney Greene.
It is, known that the Minister is very maim's to get an early start to* the C100.000,000 scheme and is getting a ittle impatient with the union men for :heir continued opposition, despite all the safeguards offered to.. them by .Dr. Beeching. No statement was -issued ifter the meeting but thereis likely, to. le another get-together soon between the
two sides in a final attempt to reach an amicable agreement,
One suggestion put forward ,,V;Is that the union and the Board should give separate consideration to the two main points which divide them. The first is the question of allowing access to the liner train terminals to private road hauliers and the second is whether it is necesaary to have a separate , brakevan at the end of the train. If there is still no agreement al the end of these talks the Minister is expected to give the railways, the green. light to go ahead with the first liner train Services without union co-operation.
