FOLLOWING the Commercial Motor Vehicle Recovery Conference in May the Association of Vehicle Recovery Operators has been born.
And on October 5, AVRO will be holding an open meeting to discuss the first report of the new association, and formulate its policy for the future.
Already AVRO has 92 members and it is hoped that more will be coming to the open meeting at the Great Eastern Hotel, Liverpool Street, London.
Under the articles of association, there are six categories of membership: A is for specialist companies capable of handling the most difficult recovery operations, including hazardous loads.
Category.B is for companies capable of lifting up to the normal maximum weight for commercial vehicles; C is for companies with facilities for straightforward towing and simple recovery facilities.
. Passenger car and light commercial vehicle operators are catered for in category D.
Category E is for affiliated companies not actually en gaged in recovery, while category F is for associates, individual men and women engaged in vehicle recovery though not necessarily with a member company.
Subscriptions range from E100 for affiliated companies; £50 for specialists; £40 for heavy recovery companies; £30 for medium companies; £25 for light recovery companies and £5 for associates.
The object of the association is to look after the interests of people and companies in vehicle recovery and to promote the discussion of all questions engaged in the industry.
Secretary John Wells told CM that it was hoped to organise the association on a regional basis with a central office. The regions will then elect members of the executive council to take office at the first annual general meeting expected late next year.
