Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Keywords : Welding, Cylinder

There is little need to outline the activities of the Harold Andrews Grinding Co., Ltd., as its name is so well known as an expert in this class of work.

Both cylinder lining and general welding are undertaken by Messrs. C. L. Jones, who have acquired an excellent reputation in these particular spheres.

Aerolite pistons and Cygnet rings are made by the Light Production Co., Ltd. The former are die-cast in various alloys and are devised to give constant clearance at all temperatures, whilst the latter are of centrifugally die-cast iron and iron-nickel alloys.

Another well-known name is that of Sheepbridge Stokes, which concern has achieved no mean fame in connection with cylinder lining. Its latest product is the I,oded iron liner, whilst reference should also be made to its Centrilock valve-seat inserts.

Notable among the products of Wellwortliy Piston Rings, Ltd.; is the Wellworthy Simplex ring,, largely used as an alternative to cylinder reconditioning. A life claimed for these rings is 40,000 miles, even if used in badly worn cylinders. This concern, of course, also makes the SuperSlot ring and a variety of first-rate pistons.

Manufacturer exclusively of valves, W. G. James, Ltd., may be regarded as an expert in the production of these items, and engine life can often be lengthened by substituting for damaged valves James products of special steels.

In welding circles, the name Sifbronze has become a by-word. It is but one of the materials to aid the welder in coping with difficult jobs that are produced by the Suffolk Iron Foundry (1920), Ltd.

Another welder specializing in intricate engine repairs is Angell and Williams, Ltd. This concern is expert in repairing aluminium and Elektron castings of all kinds.

One of the best known of all welders in the motor industry is Barimar, Ltd., which, in addition to repairing fractured castings, undertakes the welding of crankshafts. General welding is performed by a new entrant to this particular phase of repair work—the Sharp Welding Co. In this connection the method of salving worn parts practised by Fescol, Ltd., should be mentioned. This company builds up metal by using an electro-chemical process. By this means it is frequently possible to save such parts as splines, camshafts, stub axles, rocker shafts, rocker arms and shacklepins.

Among concerns specializing in the production of plain bearings may be named the Glacier Metal Co., Ltd., and the Hoyt Metal Co. of Great Britain, Ltd. The former produces all types of white-metal, lead-bronze and bronze liners and bushes, whilst the latter not only markets all forms of plain bearing, but also offers re-metalling tools.

Turning now to other chassis parts, it is frequently practicable to avoid the replacement of brake drums by having them relined, and two concerns specializing in this work are the Laystall and the Sheepbridge Stokes concerns. Springs are another item that sometimes call for resetting or the replacement of broken leaves, and among compalies engaged in this work may be mentioned J. Brockhouse and Co., Ltd., F. J. Evans, Ltd., B.B. Sales, Ltd., and Transport Engineering, Ltd.
