"One Day's Work."

Number 9 in our new series of articles on road tests under service conditions concerns a trip in a Belsize taxicab (pages 50 and 51).

The Importance of Paintwork.

The undoubted preference of the public, in London, for new cabs is seriously affecting the daily takings of drivers who have charge of the olderlooking vehicles. Where there is a possibility of choice, the smartly-kept machine will always secure a fare.

Modern Means of Transit.

Berlin is to have an " Exhibition of Modern Means of Transit," from the 23rd October to the 6th November. The show will be held in the halls adjoining the Zoo, and will possess an automobile section, as a matter of course. The Association of Berlin Motorcabowners purposes exhibiting a collection of representative types of motorcabs, and voiturettes for the transport of persons and goods svill be strongly in evidence.

nudge-Whitworth Wheels.

Budge-Whitworth wheels have become increasingly popular, during the last few years, with owners of touring cars, and their neatness should appeal to owners of taxicabs, whilst their strength is known to be exceptionally high. The use of these wheels has been approved by Scotland Yard, and the 12-14 h.p. Fiat cab, which we illustrate below, has the new triplespoke type of wheel: this is flatter on the inside than the average wooden wheel, and can therefore be fitted to any chassis without any widening of the track of the car.

Latest Thames Cab.

Our readers may be interested to learn of the recent delivery of the 12 h.p. two-cylinder Thames cab (illustrated herewith) to a concern which has owned and operated the same make of cab for the past 18 months. This new cab presents a somewhatpleasing appearance, being smartly finished in light yellow, a colour far from unpopular with taxicab owners. The bonnet, instead of being sloped a la Renault or Charron, is of ordinary pattern, with the radiator above the frame in front. Magneto ignition is fitted in place of the coil and accumulator of earlier models, and a worm gear is adopted as final drive, the worm being fitted above the gear wheel instead of beneath it as for

merly. There are 3 Palmer cord tires on the front wheels, the same make being on the Stepney. Continental non-skids are, however, being used on the rear wheels. A somewhat amusing feature is the gigantic ear trumpet which is fitted, in order to ensure the driver's attention.
