Police target false reporting of crime

THAMES VALLEY Police (NP) has warned it will deal "robustly" with any false reporting of offences by lorry drivers following an increase on the major roads in Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire,

A NP spokeswoman says

there have been a number of incidents reported recently in the Cherwell area where lorry drivers reported thefts from curtainsided lorries, but when the police looked into it. anomalies were found in the reports.

"Due to the number of false

reporting and genuine offences occurring along the major routes of Thames Valley Police, including the M40, A34 and M4, covert camera equipment is currently being used across the force area to target the problem," the spokeswoman says.

'Anyone found to be making false reports will be dealt with robustly not only by the police but also by their employers."

To report suspicious activity in the Thames Valley area, ring 999; to report non-emergency incidents, call 08458 505505.
