• The Government is to set a national target for reducing road casualties by the year 2010, but it is unlikely to include a separate target for lorry-related injuries and fatalities.
The target should be agreed next year and will be accompanied by a strategy for achieving it. Both will form part of the work for next spring's government white paper on providing an integrated transport strategy.
