• Bulk transport operator Hoyer has bought a pair of Weightlifter triaxle skeletal trailers with unusual axle spacing to suit intermodal work at either 38 tonnes (in 2+3 or 3+2 configuration) or at 44 tonnes on six axles. The trailers have a set-forward axle with an automatic lift/lower system, so different weights of 20ft containers can be accommodated with a single set of twistlocks.
Fleet engineer Brian Ratcliffe says: "Trailers which can only operate at 44 tonnes no longer offer Hoyer the flexibility they desire."
The lightweight chassis, constructed of high-tensile steel, is longer than a standard model but weighs in at just 4,440kg with full air suspension, lifting front axle and a self-tracking rear-steer axle.
Axles are all SAF SK types; lightweight alloy sideguards incorporate a hose rack.
