• Canadian truck maker Western Star says that more than 60% of its production in the last financial year was made by ERF. Western Star, which took over ERF in June 1996 in a £27.4m deal, sold 4,343 units for the year ending 30 June-174 fewer than the previous year.

ERF sold 2,632 trucks and the manufacturer's order book is currently growing, says Western Star. Some 76 trucks a week are being produced at Sandbach. Western Star's net income slid from £16.2m in 1995/6 to £1 5.1m this year.
