Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

that it's the addiction to nicotine that makes you smoke. I disagree but if you tank they might work for you, try them. Fake cigarette: I found the Nicotine fake-fags more useful because you could still have the 'hand and mouth factor. Having said that, they are rough on the throat.

Alan Cart's Easy Way to Stop Smoking: A really good little book. He thinks it's all addiction and doesn't believe anyone likes a single cigarette, but it is still one of the most powerful methods I've found. The key is that he makes you happy and excited about being a non-smoker.

Hypnotherapy: There's no doubt that if you really want to stop, this can work. Resist the urge to test it by smoking, however. It's all about retraining your mind and if you keep undermining it, it won't work.

Willpower: Frankly overrated. My advice would be not to get into the debate with yourself over 'do I have just one or don't I?' because you'll lose. Instead try:

• Having an alternative fix singalong to your favourite song loudly in the cab every time you want a fag • Getting people at work to sponsor you.

• Getting someone you trust to look after the money you save daily over 10 weeks. If you

smoke it goes to a charity of their choice you don't its yours. This worked for me.

• Get your mates to give up with you. Socialising is the often the hardest test.

• If you have a craving, try taking three really deep breaths, breathing deeply a slowly for one minute, or running round I block. These are tricks to change your t chemistry, alleviating the need for a fag. if you can hold out for 10 minutes you an often fine for ages.

Finally, remember: • With in just three days, every trace of nicotine has left your body, • If you smoke 20 a day for another 10 years you will spend another £20,000 oi cigarettes.

• Remind yourself every day that your Ii is better now. You're not missing a frienc you've defeated an enemy.

• Every smoker you meet secretly wish they could give up too. Don't envy them pity them.
