Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Derren Hayes • An information and advertising company that promised work for hauliers has gone into liquidation owing operators thousands of pounds.

Reading-based Freightback offered to advertise hauliers' services in national magazines, newspapers and on the internet for an annual membership fee of at least £ 250.

However, on 30 October it issued a voluntary winding up order and went into liquidation owing a total of £54,000 with

assets of just £1,700.

Gloucestershire operator Barrie Phelps Haulage paid £250 for membership to Freightback in early September after receiving a leaflet through the post advertising the service. "It seemed like a good idea at the time," he says, "but after hearing nothing from them for weeks I knew something must be wrong. We have enough problems in the industry without having to deal with this."

The Freightback liquidation is being handled by Langley and Partners on 0181 444 2000.
