Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

TWO Guy one-Man-operated 43-seat underfloor-engined single-deckers are to be experimemed with by Huddersfield Transport Department on the Holmfirth and Marsden route. They are stated to be the first vehicles of their type to be put into service in this country and were expected to have been introduced: last summer.

If the trials be successful, the department will probably buy, 20 for operation over moderately busy routes to alleviate the staff 'shortage and offset increases in costs. The vehicles, which are 30 ft. long and 8 ft. wide, have change-giving machines, as well as ticket-issuing machines. Power-operated doors are fitted and a loudspeaker relay is provided for making announcements.

Mr. H Muscroft, general manager of the undertaking, has stated that the vehicles are not regarded as complete replacements for normal types on busy routes. He added that the employees' union was co-operating.

4,086 TROLLEYBUSES

ARETURN just published by the Stationery Office (4d.) shows that at December 31, 1949, there were 2,322 trolleybuses outside London. Of these, 2,127 were double-deckers and 195 single-deckers. Provincial trolleybuses earned passenger receipts' of £7,830,000 in the year ended December 31, 1949. Receipts per passenger-journey averaged I.69d. and per vehicle-mile 23.74d

London Transport had '1,764 trolleybuses, which took £8,362,000 in passenger receipts. Revenue per passengerjourney averaged 2.25d. and per vehicle-mile 25.5d.

BIGGEST BATCH TO AUSTRALIA

LAST week-end, the Rootes Group dispatched in the 11,000-ton vessel Hoperidge" what was claimed to be the biggest single shipment of vehicles ever sent to Australia. The ship was specially chartered for the trip. The consignment comprised vehicles worth over E400,000 and spares and components valued at over £150,000. Karrier and Commer commercial vehicles are included.

SWISS-BUILT O.M. LORRIES TWO well-known Swiss commercial

' vehicle manufacturers, S. A. Adolphe Saurer, Arbon, and Fabrique de Camions Berna, Often, are to produce the O.M. 2i-ton oil-engined goods vehicle under a licence agreement recently concluded with the O.M. Company of Brescia, Italy. This vehicle will thus become directly competitive with lightweight oil-engined vehicles made available on the Swiss market by British manufacturers.
