Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A truck driver has won £70,000 compensation after slipping on grease and injuring himself while working at the Hays Distribution depot at Theale, Berks.

Driver Stephen Wise, 35, slipped on a patch of grease and diesel while connecting a tractor to a trailer in 1988—the safety shoes he was wearing did not have enough tread.

As a result of the incident Wise twisted his knee badly and has not been able to work as a driver since. "It was a serious injury to a relatively young man, carrying a future risk of arthritis," says Tony Gorley, the solicitor acting for Wise on behalf of the Transport and General Workers' Union.

The award has been agreed by Hays' insurers against a loss of future earnings.

Hays says it is "glad the claim has been settled to everyone's satisfaction".

"It is company policy to continuously review all aspects of safety both on and off site" it says.
