FOLLOWING an agreement made with French refrigerated bodybuilder Klegefrance, York Trailer Company has announced new range of refrigerated trailers.

York now has exclusive responsibility for the sale of Klegefance trailer bodywork in Britain. Davenport Vernon will continue to market bodywork for rigids.

The range of York Thermovans is based on a specially developed York low-neck reefer chassis with bodywork by Klegefrance. The result is a 12m (40ft) trailer with a tareweight of less than 7,000kg (15,4321b).

Klegecell sidewall core, menufact u red from an expanded polyvinyl chloride (pvc) is said to possess better mechanical, chemical and thermal properties than polyurethane and is nonabsorbent and fire-resistant.

The core is sandwiched between two Duralinox aluminium linings which are bonded using epoxy resin under pressure.

The assembled sidewalls form a self-supporting structure which dispenses with the need for interior posts. In tests on a 1.2m length of sidewall, a vertical point load was gradually increased but no deformation of the sidewall occurred until the imposed load had been increased to over 40 tonnes.

The body floor is also of oonded sandwich construction tvith the underside of the floor pan in a Duralinox skin, heathardened in acrylic.

A 20mm (0.8in) exterior ply sheet is bonded to the lining over which is bonded the 100mm (1/2in) of insulating pvc.

All exterior and interior corner cappings are in heavy duty anodised aluminium, as is the door frame. All door gear is in anticorrosive aluminium with selflocking devices. Special door seals allow either leftor righthand rear doors to be opened individually.

York's trailer chassis is built to complement the construction of the body and needs no crossmembers, which otherwise might have formed heat paths. Insulation-filled nylon cups set within the floor attach the body to the chassis.

Eight thousand Klegecell bodies have been supplied in France over the last nine years, and York claims its Thermovans can be supplied with a specification to suit the carriage of virtually any controlled temperature load. It expects to offer greater external dimensions than competitive vehicles because of pvc's better thermal qualities.

Standard and special models are built in accordance with ATP standards.

York's Klegecell-bodied trailer will be shown at the Temperature Controlled Storage and Distribution Exhibition at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on June 2 to 5.
