The London Cab Drivers Trade Union last Sunday held a meeting at Caxton Hall to consider the proposal to advance a sum of money from its reserve fund in order to .assist a co-operative cab scheme. The money in hand is the balance of payments which have been made to what is called the Protection Branch of the Union, a department which looks after the payment of policecourt fines for members when such a course is necessary.

Mr. J. M. Turner has informed the Ealing Chamber of Commerce that he proposes running a service of buses from I'itshanger-road to Ealing Broadway. He was advised by the Chamber to apply to the Commissioner of Police for the necessary permission.

A correspondent writes :— " Some people seem quite as perplexed as the Extractor' in trying to evolve—or in getting other people to evolve—a, coraposite word. The new riddle is to describe pithily the tracklesstrolley-tram, or the railless-tram, or the electric-tram-without-rails, or some other multiple title. The London boy says he goes home in a striker,' meaning a motorbus. What would he call the horselesstrackless-senseless--but, there, I must be careful." No Excessive Speed.

The Commissioner of Police has written to the Hornsey Borough Council stating that in consequence of complaints having reached him, observation had been kept on the buses running in the district, and as yet no excessive speeds have been witnessed.

The progressive Lancashire town of Bury has, by the perseverance of Supt. Pickering's money will be devoted to maintaining the ambulance, which has been formally accented for the town.

Increased Fuel Storage for Steam Buses.

On a recent visit to the Chelsea garage of the Metropolitan Steam Omnibus Co., Ltd., we were interested to remark that this company is greatly extending its fuelstorage capacity. When the alterations at present in hand are complete. it will be possible to store 36,000 gallons of paraffin at the Chelsea premises. We understand that this increase is intended to obviate the disadvantages and delays following on slack tides and fog on the River Thames, which render it difficult, and at times impossible, for the fuel barges to reach the Lot's Road depot. The tank which is now being installed will be coupled up to the other two tanks which are of similar equal capacity, viz., 12,000 gallons. When na.raffin is being pumped from the barges, a Gwynne 400-volt motor, running at 1550 r.p.rn., and directly e-ainled to a centrifugal pump, is used. Enough paraffin can now be stored on the premises to supply the M.S.O. Co.'s fleet of 60 vehicles wi h fuel for over three week..
