• French haulage giant Norbert Dentressangle plans to open a reefer company next month as part of a 40% UK fleet expansion this year.
The company, not yet named, will probably be based at Aylesbury, where Norbert already has two companies: Aston Clinton Haulage and Norbert Dentressangle Transport. Initially it will use five of 60 trucks which are being delivered from April to September this year.
The .E3.5tn investment in 60 trucks and trailers will boost Norbert's UK-registered fleet from 140 to 200 vehicles this year. It is part of the company's announced plans to boost its UK-based fleet to 800 trucks within five years (CM 27 Oct-2 Nov 1994).
Until now the £253m turnover group has not tapped the UK domestic market in refrigerated foodstuffs. However, it operates 83 reefers from France and says it has tied up refrigerated work with several UK companies.
The company, which is based in southern France, also hopes to acquire two British firms this year. It says it has "a couple in the pipeline". Last November it bought its second UK business, Manchester-based Professional Tanker Services (PTS) (CM 2430 Nov 1994).
